Haryana: Employers are advised not to terminate employees in view of COVID-19 outbreak

The Labour Department, Haryana vide a circular dated 23rd March 2020 has urged the employers not to terminate the employees/workers from job or deduct their wages in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, Government requests citizens to remain at home and not to venture out. This will constraint worker/employee from report for work. In such situation, there may be some situations where the employer may terminate the service of such employee or force him to go on leave without wages. This type of action by employer not only weaken the financial condition of employee/worker, but also hamper their morale to combat their fight against COVID-19.

 So, to solve with this situation, the employers of industry, factory, shops and establishments etc.are advised not to terminate their employees/workers or not deduct their wages. Employers are advised to consider that-

  1. If any employee takes leave, he should be deemed to be on duty without any deduction of wages for the period of leave.
  2. If the place of work to be made non-operational due to COVID-19, the employees/ workers of such workplace shall be deemed to be on duty.
