The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) vide a circular dated 18th March 2020 has granted one-time relaxation to the employers who did not file ESI Contribution within 42 days after end of the contribution period for the period April 2019 to September 2019. Such employers are allowed to file the contribution till 15-05-2020.
Para 26 of Employees’ State Insurance (General) Regulations, 1950 provides that every employer shall send a return of contributions along with receipted copies of challans for the amounts deposited in the Bank, within 42 days of the termination of contribution period to which it relates. But the employers were facing problems in filling ESI contribution for the period April-September 2019 within 42 days. So, to give relief to the employers, ESIC has permitted only once the employers to file these outstanding contributions even after completion of 42 days. This circular also clarified that-
- This relaxation is limited to the contribution period April 2019 to September 2019 only.
- For other contribution period, no relaxation is allowed.
- This relaxation is not extended to other new or older contribution period.
