Labour Ministry extends utility service status for certain industries till 24-04-2020

The Ministry of labour and employment vide 3 Notifications dated 17th October 2019, has declared that services of the industry engaged in the processing or production or distribution of fuel gases (coal gas, natural gas and the like) industrial establishments manufacturing or producing nuclear fuel and components, heavy water and allied chemicals and atomic energy and banking industry under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 shall be public utility services for next six months, starting from 24th October 2019.

Prior to this Notification, the Ministry of labour and employment had declared the said industry to be public utility service with effect from 31st July, 2018, vide Notification No S.O.3755(E) dated 31st July 2018. It had last extended the public utility status for these industries for a period of six months vide notification no. S.O. 1632 (E ) dated 24th April 2019. In three different notifications issued on 17th October 2019, the Ministry of Labour and Employment said that it is in the public interest the services of these industries covered under different schedules of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 are declared as public utility service for another six months, i.e till 24th April 2020.
