Tamil Nadu Declares Public Holiday due to election polling on 18th April

The Government of Tamil Nadu by a Government Order dated 27th March 2019 has declared Public holiday in the entire state of Tamil Nadu on Thursday, 18th April 2019 due to Lok Sabha Polling Day. According to the Government Order, the Election Commission has notified that the poll day for General Elections to Lok Sabha and Bye-Elections to 18 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu be declared as “public holiday” under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. This holiday shall be applicable to all Government Offices/institutions, local Bodies, and commercial and industrial Establishments both public and private.

The Election Commission of India (EC) on March 10 announced the full schedule of phase-wise and constituency-wise voting for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and Tamil Nadu will witness polls on 18th April 2019 . This holiday is declared on public interest to facilitate the employed persons to take part and cast their votes in the General Elections to Lok Sabha, 2019.
